How did you get involved with Willow?
Carol Young, Willow Foundation Events Manager, introduced me to Willow and it struck a cord straight away as they help bring some fun to people my age who are going through difficult times. I've seen the impact that life threatening illness can have to the individual, family and friends and Special Days are such a great way to bring a bit of fun back.
What activities or events have you been involved with?
Various events from collecting money at a garden centre and helping at the annual ball to collecting a cheque from a camping rally and cheering on challenge eventers. I have also taken part in the British 10k twice and the Women's Hydroactive for Willow as well as a dog sledding challenge in the Arctic where I raised more than £4,000 in sponsorship.
What's the best thing about volunteering?
Willow do their utmost to put the 'fun' back in to fundraising which means that you enjoy what you are doing as well as raising vital funds. Over the past couple of years I have met some really interesting people and discovered all sorts of new ways of raising money.
Does it have its down side?
Not having enough time to be more involved. Oh, sore feet and bad weather on occasions but remembering why you are there more than makes up for it.
Have you any ideas up your sleeve?
Lots! I just need to find the time to implement them! I am actively going to try and get my friends to join in with my efforts next year and spread the word.
In 15 words or less how would you encourage others to get involved?
Join in the fun. Spare a little time to make a big difference.
